Rep. Donnelly visits Elkhart to tout new "green" initiatives

February 18, 2009

A new technology in Elkhart County could save the Hoosier state hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Wednesday, Congressman Joe Donnelly visited the Miles Truck Service, Inc in Elkhart.

The company utilizes a new hydrogen based fuel to lessen the harmful pollution effects of trucks.

The hydrogen generator fuel, which comes from distilled water, can increase mileage by 25% on the average semi-truck.

Donnelly says, that means every month we are buying 25% less fuel product from the Middle East.

"Think what this can do for our country," says Donnelly. "When we talk about how to strengthen our economy
-- how to revive the economic engine -- the opportunity to have homegrown, clean American energy is critical.
When we talk about Indiana's future, green energy is a huge part of it.  The fuel can be used in school buses, trucks
and public transit.

They hope to have it in full production in the near future, hopefully leading to more jobs in the Michiana community.
